Which Carts Are Street Legal?
We sell our EDGE EV, Conquest and Kandi Kruiser carts as street legal LSVs. A few things in the showroom aren’t: the Kandi Innovator isn’t street legal and isn’t an LSV, and CycleBoard stand-up boards are their own thing, not LSVs. We haven’t confirmed LSV status on the Kandi Cowboy, so we don’t sell it as one. If you need something for the ranch or job site instead, take a look at our Kandi electric UTVs (off-road).
One more thing: we’re a dealership, not a rental shop. Every cart here is for sale, and you’ll own it.
What Makes a Golf Cart Street Legal?
The federal name is “low-speed vehicle,” or LSV (Texas also calls them neighborhood electric vehicles). It’s a four-wheel vehicle that meets the FMVSS 500 safety standard and tops out around 20–25 mph. That means it comes with headlights, turn signals, brake lights, reflectors, mirrors, a parking brake, a windshield, seat belts at every seat and a 17-digit VIN. It’s not a highway car, but it’s a lot more than a course cart.
Texas Rules, Short Version
- Stick to 35 mph roads. An LSV tops out at 25 mph, so it belongs on streets posted 35 or less. That covers most of Park Cities, Preston Hollow, Lakewood and Lake Highlands. Stay off the faster roads and the freeway.
- Paperwork: title, registration (a plate) and liability insurance, and the driver needs a license.
- Check locally: posted limits and city rules can vary, so look before you go.
